Good Shepherd Emergency Relief Service is located in Wynnum and has been serving the local community for over 20 years.
We provide aid in the form of food, chemist and petrol vouchers to people living in the Bayside suburbs who are unable to meet the essential needs of their families. This may be a result of disadvantage through some unexpected event like the death of a family member, or loss of paid employment.
We also work with the Brisbane Homeless Service to assist people who have been evicted or cannot keep up their rent payments.
Good Shepherd is open Mondays, 9am-12pm. Limited capacity, early arrival recommended.
"The greatest satisfaction of our work is to help someone who appears to be in an impossible financial situation and sometimes our help is just enough to give them back some pride to carry on." Good Shepherd Volunteer
"To be stopped in the street by someone you have helped some six months previously and be told I have got a job now and if you guys didn’t help me when I was desperate, I would be in jail now. That is the reward that makes it all worth while." Good Shepherd Volunteer
The service is funded by the Australian Government, Department of Social Services and the Queensland Government, Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services.
